I'd be interested in specific pointers to those articles. I honestly have not read very many negative comments about Saabs, except the endlessly repeated 'quirky'. >However, I'm not persuaded that everyone who owns a Saab must studiously >ignore its shortcomings. First, you have to decide if they are shortcomings. Every vehicle is different. Each has certain 'features' and design goals. Not every car is designed simply to be as smooth and quiet as possible. Not everyone wants smooth and quiet. You want that, go buy a Lincoln. Soft, mushy suspension, pounds and pounds of sound insulation (reducing mileage by weight), over built frames, they are quiet. Smooth and quiet is the opposite of 'handles well' and is 'sporty'. Saabs are built for folks that like to know they are driving. An active vs. a passive car. Try driving that Mustang you keep mentioning... let me know how the 'quality' of that ride/car is. It's not for me, but I know some Mustang owners who love their cars. Each car has a personality. If you don't like the Saab then you should never have bought it. >The depreciation rate of Saabs appears to be substantially greater than >that of other cars in its class. Post some numbers. Show me some prices that cars actually go out of the showroom for, the age/miles, and the % depreciation. I think most of this is perception. I see folks posting that 'my Honda didn't depreciate like this' - but the Honda sold for MSRP or higher and the Saab sold for 4K under MSRP. >I bought my Miata used also, and have spent far less >money on repairs for it in three years of ownership than I have spent in >six months of ownership of the Saab. I don't doubt you. Japanese cars are known for reliability. *European* cars are not. Go take a look at consumer reports, let me know how BMW, Vovlo, Jaguar, all stack up. (Hint, I been there, none is anywhere near as reliable as a typical Japanese car). They are not as lame as Yugos, but they are not Acuras. Bob
