Subject: Re: Dead SAAB vs. Rusty Mazda....

hands down, I'd keep the Saab, but this forum is alt.autos.saab, so what did you expect. It may be a dead fuel pump. Jump the fuel pump relay (30 - 87b) and verify that there is 12V at the top of the fuel pump inspection plate. If so and there is no fuel pump noise, the pump is dead. This will probably be expensive at a dealer, and a bit more reasonable at an independent. As it is, the fuel pump can be replaced in a couple of hours in your own garage with a little work. What is entailed is to remove the fuel can from the tank. (note and mark orientation of hash mark with respect to the tank, remove threaded fastener ring, maneuver the can out of the tank) Carefully disassemble the can to remove the fuel pump. Small screwdrivers to unsnap the parts. The only difficult part is to release the fingers of the ejector nozzle from the can then rotate the ejector nozzle carefully remove it. 12 yrs of sitting in fuel makes the parts a little fragile, but take your time and it will go fine. On my '89 the pump was connected with a short formed piece of rubber fuel line to the can. remove the clamp and remove the fuel pump. Do this first so that you can bring the fuel pump with you to the parts house. Also, put the rubber pieces back into the can and put it back in the gas tank so that they remain pliable for reassembly. You will have to stretch the rubber a bit to get it over the new pump. Good luck, http://216.78.173.190/engine_folder/fuelpumpindex.htm KeithG "Dan" <dan.burnettnopsamxerox.com> wrote in message news:9lbklr$h74$1nopsam.wrc.xerox.com... > Hi folks - My 1989 SAAB 900 died and my efforts to get it running didn't > work. > > It won't start, I don't hear the fuel pump and new relays didn't fix it.
