Well here's an update that inclines me to think it's linkage as well. I discovered that if I pushed it UP into 5th and then LEFT toward 3rd, it would hold just fine. That's some funky feature... Now if only I could get all my other gears to do similar things on opposite directions, I could keep my friends from borrowing my SPG. :) Thanks! Ben
