I haven't had my 1998 900 convertible for very long (just 2 months now) but the experience I have had is in stark contrast to this. I find the car handles very competently and is a true joy to drive. The engine (2.3 non-turbo) is smooth and quiet and has just enough power to be fun. I love the car!
