I have owned 3 Saabs, an 83 900T 5 spd, over 251,000 miles, 87 900S 5 spd, over 146K and my current 87 9000S 5 spd, over 215K. I never had any problems with my 900s. I always drained the old oil and replaced with fresh Castrol GTX 10W30 every 20K to 25K miles. My 9000 had 145,890 on it, when I bought it used in 12/97. I use Castrol GTX 10W40 in the 5 spd. I also use two to three ounces of Militec-1 in my 5 spds. The first time I used it with my 83 900T, the metallic sludge disappeared from the magnetic drain plug. The trans also shifted very smooth. Often it is not the gearbox, but the way it is used and maintained. People switch back and forth between lubricants, and when the trans go, they want to blame the car. The owners manual on the older Saabs said 10W30 or 10W40. Keep it simple stupid. It's cheaper. Ken Washington 87 9000S 87 900S 83 900T
