Subject: Re: Alarm Remote not working

Malcolm, I've just had a similar problem ('92 9000 CS, UK spec) - now diagnosed and fixed by my local SAAB dealer. Mine failed immediately after reconnecting the battery then tripping the alarm with an open door. It failed such that there was no response to the remote control (blipper), though the signal was good, and more annoyingly IMMOBILISED, so I couldn't start the car. The RAC (UK breakdown service) and a local Auto Electrician both advised >>>>> Main Dealer <<<<<< which I did. In the final event, the problem lay in the alarm bypass switch (that's the thing that is supposed to allow you to turn the alarm completely OFF if there's a problem!) had somehow failed. This switch is in the back of the glove box (under a little black plastic cover), and if you're lucky you should have a couple of keys for it. Your symptoms sound similar, though it sounds like you are not immobilised? So, maybe you would like to investigate the bypass switch. Firstly try switching off and on a few times. Then maybe try replacing the switch (you get two new keys). My costs? Parts (switch with keys): £34 Labour: £175 <Pounds Sterling> Don't you just love main dealers.
