Subject: '85 Transmission Woes

I have an '85/'83 800 (8V) with a 5 speed that is giving me problems. Sometimes, when shifting into 1st or 3rd, it feels like the shift mechanisms are not engaging, the shift handle moves forward, but no connection. I can often shift to second, then successfully get into 1st. Any ideas? are there some adjustments that might be accessible before I pull the transmission? I have a Haynes book, but the only adjustment indicated is moving the mounting position of the shift lever. Any information or experiences would be appreciated. I've had the car (1985) about 9 months, it has 270K miles. I replaced the engine/transmission with a set from another car (1983), the transmission looked good and had presumably been rebuilt about 40k miles before then. pauljohnsonnopsamhome.net
