Subject: inner driver -- what is it?

For a few months, I've had a slight shimmy at about 60 - 65mph. This is on a 1984 900 S. It gets better faster (barely perceptible), and lets up when I let up on the gas. I first thought it was a worn inner tie rod end, but now am told it's a worn inner driver. It doesn't seem to severe, and I'm having it fixed in about a week. Just curious: what is it and what does it do? Where is it located? Thanks, -jw -- 1984 900 S hatchback 135K mi. Rhode Island
