Subject: 9000 balance shafts

Dear fellow Saabers, Does anybody know whether balance shaft problems are common on a 1995 9000cs (non-turbo)2.0 liter engine? I saw a good looking 9000 at a garage near my house, but whenever rpm hits 3000-3200 rpm, the engine will start whining. My Saab dealer tells me it will cost about $2000 to fix it. Can anyone tell me what the problem is with these balance shaft, as I have heard from some people that these balance shafts cause problems more often. Is it a repair that can be done by a Do-It_yourself mechanic, or do I need to get huge amounts of parts an equipment to fix it..... The car is a 1995 9000cs, 175.000 kms, manual transmission, without turbo Regards, Robin Please respont to this group or to my email address dasguptaXXXnopsamnl (remove the XXX to reply)
