I have an 83 900T and an 89 900S, both with just under 300,000 miles on the original engines. I have no problem, even at with the high mileage, shifting just under redline if I feel like driving hard. I don't do it all the time, but maybe 10 or 20% of the time. Both engines are fine. They don't smoke at all and have good compression. I change the oil twice / year - spring and fall. I use mobile one (I have since purchasing the cars, around 80,000 miles). The 2 and 2.3 litre engines seem nearly bullet- proof. I'd be more concerned with the transmissions (have rebuilt each one onec (at about 120 to 150K miles). Never had a problem with the turbo, valves, etc. I have done each timing chain one time. From my perspective - have fun and let her rip! Just don't grind or force the gears!.
