In article <3bace394_3nopsam2.vip.uk.com>, a.ballard <a.ballardnopsamworld.co.uk> writes >blue smoke from 9-5s is well known amongst Saab dealers, they have a >modification for it. however your likely to end up with a new turbo. get it >done under warranty ASAP >get them to check for any other recalls at the same time. there are several >including an engine management upgrade. > Yes, thanks for the advice. I think the car is already updated for engine management. Anyway the outcome of the blue smoke symptom *was* a new turbo done under warranty. The service man mentioned that there was a banjo bolt that restricted the oil flow too much causing the turbo to overheat. Apparently this has now been modified so I can expect the replacement to last a while. As you say it seems to be a common fault, do you know if it existed right from the start of 9-5 production? Seems unlikely as mine's a 2000 model, I would have thought SAAB would have sorted it by then. Must be costing them a small fortune to replace all these turbos under warranty. -- Julian
