I just got through buying a new car this year. Along the way, I compared a Solara and a Saab 9-3 3-door. The Solara has nice lines, but all those swoopy edges are in the wrong place if you want to actually see where other cars are on the road. I bought the Saab 3-door because it was built better, handled better, got about the same mileage, had much better performance, and can carry a baby elephant if I fold down the back seat. Toyotas are good cars, too. The new Lexus 300 looks real good and will give the Saab 9-5, Lincoln LS and BMW a hell of a run for your money. Unfortunately, Toyotas are so popular in the US that they are overpriced for what they are. Being overpriced, they are 'way too expensive to fix up if the owner finds his Toyota to be a little boring. I just finished two eight-hour roadtrips in my 9-3. I averaged about 70 MPH, got 29 MPG and arrived more relaxed than my old Chrysler used to manage -- and *it* was a good road car. ***** Saab made a BIG mistake doing away with the basic 9-3 hatchback models in the US. milt b
