Subject: Re: 9-5 Viggen

Feom the saabnet.com bulletin board: According to the Swedish daily "Aftonbladet" Saab is currently testing a new version of 9-5, the Viggen. It will be Saab's quickest model ever. The article says that even though the Saab 9-5 Aero with 250hp is selling very well the customers are striving for even more power. In this year only, more than 900 customers have trimmed their Aeros at Nordic, the largest Saab tuner in Sweden. Their kit includes 1 inch lowering springs and a power boost to 280 or even 300hp. Saab is of course very interested in these performance-seeking customers. They have been testing the 2.3 liter powerplant at 350 hp but according to the article it was "too brutal" without 4-wheel drive. 300 hp was said to be better, but they claim that the production hp will be 280 with 415 newtonmeters of torque (hellofalot!) The suspension will get new dampers from ÷hlins of Sweden and new springs lowering the car only under an inch. The interior will get new racing seats but other mods are discrete. The front bumper will have a new trim with the large oval air intake in the middle. Side skirts will also be lower than in Aero. According to the article the main market for this new model will be in the US: the women in urban cities are considered to be the most prospective buyers! Hmm. I believe this is just one of the "top" stories appearing in magazines ever so regularly. Time will tell if there really is such a model coming. According to the article the Viggen will hit the stores next fall.
