Actually, "Derek Hawkins" <elNOSPAMdatanopsamcom> started this whole sordid conversation by cross-posting the original news blurb between alt.autos and the a.a.Toyota, a.a.Volvo and a.a.Saab groups. Obviously, he thought the original subject would be interesting to all - or he'd see if a good flame-war would start between groups that normally don't hang out together - the world may never know which.
