Subject: 97 9000 alarm questions

Hi, I have a 97 9000CS. I bought the car used and it had an aftermarket alarm system in it with a remote starter. It failed and I had it removed by my local Saab guy. I asked him to program a Saab remote to the factory system but it would not take the code. We tried several remotes. Will a Tech 2 work with the 97 alarms, or do you need an ISAT? According to the electrical manual, there are two types of alarms, those with VSS and those without. Does anyone know the difference between the two? Are there different types of alarm modules that only work with a key, or should all 97 9000's work with a remote? If they are different, can I swap a remote-able controller for the one that's installed? The alarm seems to (partially) work. When I lock the car the dash LED flashes for 10 seconds and the alarm is armed. If I open the driver's door by unlocking it without the key (using the manual door plunger), the horn sounds, but no lights flash. If I open the rear door without unlocking the car, it doesn't trip the alarm. Is this normal, or should all doors trip the alarm and should the lights flash? Any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Ted
