The 96 900 has a cable (ie non-hydraulic) clutch which will always be harder than a hydraulic clutch as you might find in some other models. However, the cable is still a nice smooth and relatively easy clutch when in good conditions. You either need a cable, or a clutch. If your clutch is not exhibiting any other problems, it's most likely your cable. Also, the two jobs are really separate, so you won't waste any labor money if you do the cable and that wasn't the problem. Lastly, the cable are known to wear and sometimes break. Based on the number of breaks I've seen reported, I usually advise folks to replace them every 50K at most. My own was stiff and troublesome at 45K miles. So, yours is due. The good news is that the cable job is not very expensive, and it often results in a clutch that feels like new. Bob
