Subject: Heated Seats

The heated seats in my 1996 900SE appear not to be working. Can anyone tell me about how much it typically would cost to get them fixed at the Saab dealers in a large U.S. city? My sister, who lives in the English midlands, has a Volvo with heated seats, and the driver's seat heating isn't working. She told me she was quoted a very high figure to get it fixed. I'm puzzled about why the heating on BOTH sides in my Saab isn't working. It seems like a remarkable coincidence. It can't be the fuse, because the same fuse covers both the seats and the central locking system, and the central locking system still works. If I switch on the passenger side heating, I get no feeling of heat from the seat. Does the heat come through only only when someone is sitting in the seat? Typically, what goes wrong? I've heard that there is wire mesh in the seats, and it sometimes gets broken when someone kneels on the seat. Is repair potentially a do-it-yourself job?
