Subject: Help! 97 900s nightmare

Hi I'm at the end of my tether. My 1997 Saab 900s has a habit of inexplicably cutting out at random. If I try to restart it everything lights up ok, it turns over but will not fire. I have replaced the distributor and cap. There is fuel there under pressure, but I have noticed when it has cut out, the tachometer does not move at all when I am trying to start it. If I remove the pump fuse and try and start it I get a reading on the tacho. I have 12 volts at the coil so can only assume there is no pulse. Is this more likely to be the engine position sensor or the ECU giving up? There are no error codes showing. Can I test them? What do I do next? Many thanks David Wells
