Subject: Bogus Tips to Pass Your Next Emissions Test

Bogus Tips to Pass Your Next Emissions Test Car owners--from around the world--have found a number of unique, and often bogus ways, to help their vehicle pass an emissions test. Bogus Means: COUNTERFEIT, fake, false, phony, pinchbeck, pseudo, sham, snide, spurious. Related: forged, imitation. As contrasted with bona fide, good, authentic, genuine, real. Examples: * Australian Motorist--The secret is a clean air filter, a working lambda sensor and catalyst, and if all else fails, a good thrash for half a hour before the test. A good thrash tends to unbung the injectors. Sometimes works a treat on diesels. I've had 'em some way over [1] and after a few seconds with the foot hard down are back under again. * U.S Motorist -- Last week I dumped a gallon of denatured alcohol into about 10 gallons of gas to pass a smog test * Canadan Motorist --I add a full can of catalytic converter cleaner to a half tank of premium gas. It Fools most emissions computers (well, you know, unless your car is REALLY trashed). * Hong Kong Taxi Driver -- With a diesel engine, pour a large quantity of Kerosene into the petrol tank. The engine runs clean. * U. S. Motorist -- Remove the Mal Function Light (MIL) of the OBD II system and throw it away. * Mexico Motorist--Switch your license plates with a car that has recently passed an emissions inspection, and have that car re inspected. A sure pass if’Ķ.. * Southern California Service Technician -- A 1985 Camero comes in for test. Fails for MIL light on. Customer comes back in 2 days and the mil works fine. Upon closer inspection, the mil light is wired to the oil pressure switch. * Texas Emissions Technican -- A common cheating practice is to pull a vacuum hose off, for engines that are running rich. Also, retarding ignition timing really helps. After the emisions inspection is completed, the timing is reset to initial specifiations. I have seen timing retard close to 15 degees ATDC. The car is running really bad, no power at all, but it will pass an emissions test. _________________________________ For legitimate tips on how to help your vehicle pass its next emissions test.... http://www.bsett.com ________________________________
