Toyota is not number one in the US market they only have the number one selling car. The number one selling vehicle is a Ford F150. GM is the largest manufacture Ford second and then Der Mopar. GM sells more vehicles than all foreign manufactures vehicles combined. Because US laws make it possible for foreign companies to unfairly compete in the domestic marker, is the primary reason. England and the Common market does not permit the type of control of parts suppliers that Japan INC. practices in the US with Desno Corporation. That combined with US federal tax laws allow foreign owned manufactures and their suppliers to escape paying federal taxes. Foreign assembly plants generally pay lower wages, have fewer benefits, and pay lower pensions and sell for higher prices. Those fact make hugh difference in the bottom line. The US does so to encourage domestic assembly of foreign products. Not so in Europe. Toyota, in fact all Japanese companies, lose money because they must compete on a level playing field.
