Subject: Re: 2001 9-3 SE Convertible in the Snow

I drove a classic Saab with Pirelli Winter 190 snow tires - no chains or bungee cords - for 16 winters in the East Coast. The weather varied from ice to 2 feet of snow. The Saab was great in up to 12" of unplowed snow - after that I ran out of ground clearance and I could not push anymore snow. Maybe your 2001 9-3 will do as well, but there are people with the opinion that the unique engine placement in the classic 900 resulted in a better handling winter car. I also had a manual transmission, which meant I could start in 2nd, but that is what the winter mode for the automatics do anyway. Good luck with the Saab in the snow and enjoy the skiing.
