Subject: Warranty expiration

I have a 1998 900turbo that the warranty is about to expire. Before that happens, I want somebody to check the car, so I can get as much fixed (if anything) on it before the warranty expire. When I called Saab, they suggested they could take a 45000 miles service on the car and see what they found. (The car has about 40k). Is this the way to go? Should I rather take the car to an independet garage? AAA? What should I have them to look for?
