Subject: Re: Headlamps -- 9-5

My car is a 1999 9-5 Wagon 64000KM I have had to change my bulbs several times as well, and while I agree that it seems too short a lifespan it is one of those things one seems to need to accept. HOWEVER - Yesterday my front right corner light assembly fell right out of the car's body. Driving down the highway and seeing the beezel assembly blowing in the wind at the end of the power cables was an interesting experience (not as much fun as losing the back axel at speed in my '78 Century). The plastic holder cracked at the fastener point (screwed in to the headlight bezel assembly) so there was nothing else holding it in. There are position holding "pins" but only 1 bolt. My question is this. I can see similar stress cracks on the left side...is this a known problem? Is there any recall out for this? Thanks for the tips! They do tend to burn out fast, but I've never heard of the lifespan to be an average of 1.5 yrs. That's pretty lame. Between both my 2k 9-3SE and Wife's '98 900SE, only one brake bulb (non halogen) has been replaced. I do know, however, that 9-5 bulbs are as simple to replace as NG900/9-3 bulbs and can be purchased for around $13.00 (Sylvania) from your local auto parts store. Yes, it is recommended that you replace both at the same time (bulb manufacturers and dealerships recommendation of course). > >Brian G. > >BTW- Never touch the glass part of a halogen bulb as it will significantly reduce lifespan/longevity. > > "Marc Escuro" <mgescuronopsam.com> wrote in message news:B7F73CF3.14576%mgescuronopsam.com... > > The oddest thing happened to me at the SAAB dealership the other day when I was getting my oil changed and my brake pads replaced. > > One of my headlamps burned out. It didn't burn out until I picked up the car. The 2 service people were very nice to change it immediately and with the least amount of hassle. However, they said they would change BOTH bulbs because they usually burn out within days of each other!!! > > Now, here's my thing. I have a 2000 9-5 Aero with 25,500 miles on it. I've never heard of bulbs burning out so fast!!! I mean... Do I have to change my light bulbs every 1.5 years?!?!?!?! It's weird. > > > > -- > > Marc Escuro > mgescuronopsam.com > > > "...when all hope is gone, you know sad songs say so much..."
