I've lived in Boston my whole life and have had four wheel drive vehicles, front and rear drive vehicles, too. In all cases the best performance came from having winter tires on, just the presence of awd or fwd is not a cure all for winter driving. If you like the awd for handling purposes, that's another matter, and I think a matter of taste. I heard the Viggen has a lot of torque steer in those front wheels.
