Subject: 17" alloys on a 1991 9000 2.3 turbo

Just bought a 1991 9000 2.3 turbo. It's got 195/55 R15 saab multispoke alloys on it. I'm going to put some 17s on instead. So a quick look at one of the many tyre calculators on the net shows me that a 205/40R17 will have virtually the same dimensions (.5% difference). However, when I called some places to inquire about wheels, they told me that there books show 215/45R17s as being required. This just doesn't make sense. These would be >5% out. They'd be about 1 inch in diameter bigger. I called Abbot Racing, and they said the same, but when I asked them to explain, they basically couldn't. In fact, they were quite rude. So whats the story ? They only explanation I can think of is that my saab has the wrong wheels on it. If it was supposed to have 195/60s on it, that would make sense. Even 195/65s would make more sense. Anyone shed any light on this ? stu
