It was an acronym, Svenska Aeroplan AB (AB = aktiebolag, aktie = share,
i.e. a company form with stock/shares), but that was changed for the
car manufacturing part when it was sold to GM.

  systems, et.al.

  This is Saab Automobile AB, manufacturers of automobiles.

Both companies seems to use SAAB in their logotypes, but use Saab
in normal text.
