Just Bob says... >>I think of Toyota Avalon and Lexus. > >I don't know if you say my followup post, I just did! but I think this is an >example of a company that almost does it right. Toyota has >managed to market Lexus as an exclusive brand (even though it is >sold as a Toyota in Japan :-). Successful branding like this >works. I don't know if the Avalon is a good example of the 'other' >side as there seems to be little interest in that car. But, it is the same car with less insulation for road noise and a different grade of leather. >GM includes(ed) Chevy, Buick, Olds, and Pontiac. There's little >'marketing' difference in the various lines to most people. I agree with you there. >Perhaps Buick has a slight reputation for luxury, maybe Chevy for the >opposite, and maybe Pontiac for 'sporty". But, they mix it up so much >that no one knows which line is what. Maybe that is their goal? To purposely mix it up some the newer generation will not know and will not be biased by the stories they've heard passed around the dinner table? >Like I said, something's gotta give. <I was just listening to a song that had that line in it, good song> I don't know much about how they run their company, and if I look at past events all I can say is "Phew!" They are usually a day late and a dollar short. They have taken care of the dollar short part by buying SAAB. SAAB probably pulls in it's weight in gold and they go and squander it on stuff like this because there is a market for it. And, the main market they target with the flash stuff seems to be generation X. ~J~ Remove "Junk" to reply
