Jonas Quimby <Jonas184nopsamail.com> pressed random keys until the following was produced: > I have a friend that ended up with a 73 saab sonett III not long ago. (snip) Great car - lots of fun. Any coolant in the oil (oil looking like chocolate latte)? > I looked at the plugs from those cylinders and they looked as > if the tips were melted. not good. Yup, not good. > so we stuck everything back together and > cranked it till it finally started. after running for less then a minute, > there was quite a cloud of exhaust coming from the carb. That's odd. What color, white, blue, black? Did it smell like coolant, or oil, or gas? > we shut things down > and called it a night from there. anyone got any ideas what's wrong? One > interesting thing is that not very long ago the valve seats wee worked over > so it could run on unleaded gas. could this have anything to do with it? Ah. Ah. Could very well be a problem with that work. Was the head torqued properly? New head gaskets of course, right? I'd check a few things: 1. Are the valve clearances adjusted properly? When the valves are closed, you should be able to move the rockers slightly and have free play. If this doesn't make any sense to you, you might be better off with a mechanic. 2. Are the head bolts tight? Um. I can't think of anything else right now, but let us know what you find and we'll see what else we can suggest. Dave Hinz > sorry bout the long post.
