Hello, Since its a new car, I think that Saab (the dealership) should eat the cost. As mentioned, its obviously flawed glass, or a poor installation that caused it. The heater was just the catalyst, by warming it up to expand some, increasing the stress. As to the front window, as noted, it has a special layer in it. That layer is Lexan, which looks like plexi-glass, but instead of being brittle, such that it snaps and cracks, Lexan can actually be bent and twist without breaking. I have some that I put in a vise and folded it about 60 degrees to make a bent mounting for a gadget. It looses some strength, but still holds. They use some kind of adhesive to stick all 3 layers together (glass in and out, Lexan in the middle). -- Nate t. G.
