Subject: Re: ADVICE ON CHOOSING FIRST SAAB CONVO (UK)

I drive a 2000 SE convertible in the UK, over all sorts of terrain - welsh and cubrian roads, cobbled streets and around Birmingham and London. Many passengers have remarked about the comfortable ride - yes it does shake a little, but not needlessly so. If a BMW is more rigid, then so be it, but the 9-3 is more than adequate. As for handling the power, well that's your own decision - people who say that tend to be used to either less powerful or rear-wheel drive cars - any car with a decent chunk of power going through only the front wheels is going to suffer wheelspin, but how often do you hear a Saab wheelspinning? Rarely. Owners tend to get used to it very quickly! So long as you're sensible, you can use the huge pile of torque for decent acceleration instead of trying to boot it off the line all the time. Gentle with 1st, agressive with 2nd, foot down in thrid and you'll hammer most of the opposition! If that's you style that is..... I didn't see the first post of this thread, so I didn't pick up whether you were looking at new or used - my only advice would be to test drive 2 or 3 examples, for the simple reason that different wheel sizes seem to affect the ride to an enroumous degree - despite the fact that 18-inch wheels look a damn sight better, I ended up going for 16's as the ride was less choppy than the bigger wheels. Having said that, if you're comfortable with the 17's, go for it, as they look great (just don't kerb them!) Hope this helps, plenty more where this came from! H.
