The mixed results are with the later (post 2000) vehicles. The ECU was changed and from what I understand, it 'compensates' and reduces the effect of manual control. You can get a manual boost controller for really short money and check it out. Read here to learn about it: http://pages.cthome.net/gus/mike.html Poke around the site for more info. You can build one of those boost valves yourself with the instructions there or buy one from Dawes Devices (linked at the bottom) or some other sources. Once you get it adjusted, it's a nice improvement. Turbo lag is significantly reduced since the MBC only opens the dumper after pressure is developed, not _as_ pressure is developed. The downside is that the boost is fixed and as ambient temperatures drop seasonally you will probably have to adjust the valve. Also, as mentioned in the previous posts, if it overboosts then the ECU will cut fuel, which is rather abrupt. If you buy an ECU upgrade, you maintain the stock arrangement. The ECU will tell the computer to open the valve later, giving you the same boost effect. But, since the computer is still in control, it can adjust automatically to provide maximum boost in all temps. Instead of hitting fuel cut, the computer will just adjust the boost down and performance remains smooth. If you are thinking of either of these mods, you want to consider doing a little clean up of the intake for better airflow. Also, you make want to consider a sports exhaust for better flow out the back. Bob
