Subject: Re: buying a 900/9000 - what mileage/year?

When I was looking 3 months ago I had £2500 to spend and I was after the newest 9000 turbo I could get. I had a look at a few but was mostly disappointed. I was looking for a 2.3 CSE Turbo. In the end I found two that matched my price range. The first was a 92 9000 2.3 CSE Turbo with manual gearbox and full service history. It had air conditioning as well as a sunroof. But on the downside, it had no leather or heated seats and the seats weren't electric. It also had no boot spoiler and had 178,000 miles on the clock. The second one was a 93 9000 2.3 CSE Turbo with an auto box and full service history. It had air conditioning, CD autochanger, electric leather heated seats as well as a boot spoiler. It also had extra wood along the doors. The car had done 143,000 miles. I have never owned an automatic car before and thought that I would disregard an auto altogether. Instead I found the clutch position on the manual to be clumsy and the pedal to be heavy. I went for the automatic in the end but would have waited to look for another if this one hadn't had a major gearbox repair because of the high miles. I find the automatic a joy to drive and overtaking is a doddle. I wanted the 2.3 Turbo because I thought I'd go for the best I could. The only downside to the turbo on the 2.3 is the high running costs compared to one without. The advantage to buying the 2.3 Turbo is that they go cheaper because some people don't want to touch them. It's worth looking on the autotrader website for SAAB's and it's really worth considering going a bit further to find the right car i.e. outside London. One thing you really should not ignore is the fact that SAAB's do go wrong and they can be expensive. You can get a fully inclusive warranty (even for high mileage cars) from www.warrantywise.co.uk I'd suggest you test drive as many as you can and make sure all the electrics work on the car as these are very common to be faulty and expensive to repair.
