When you lower the car, the tires will be closer to the wheel wells and they will appear fuller. >I'm a bit pissed off at the swirl marks forming on my paint, but I'm not >sure if the dealer will re-do the paint under warranty. >I think it's just a product of where I live (the desert). Swirl marks are caused by (lack of) care, not bad paint. The darker the paint, usually the more they show. Washing the car with a dirty mit, waxing in circles with overly abrasive products, using a car wash, all contribute. You can remove them with a great deal of effort and then prevent them with proper care. To remove, you will need to try a product like "3M swirl mark remover for dark (or light) cars". This is a very fine product and may or may not work, depending on how deep the marks are. You should apply it by hand with a back and forth motion on a foam pad. Expect to spend at least 30 minutes per panel to do it right. If the SMR does not work, you will have to move to something like 3M finesse-it II. Finesse it is a little more abrasive and will probably do it. The downside is that you might - I stress might - have to go over the car with something finer like SMR when you are done. Some cars need it, some don't. You won't know until you try it. After removal, you should finish the car with a polymer finish like Klasse. You can also use a quality non-abrasive carnauba wax like Blitz. The upside to something like Klasse is that it lasts 6 months - so if you do it 3 - 4 times a year and just wash your car and dry it periodically, it's always looks freshly waxed. After that, don't let anyone wash the car but you. When you do, use two buckets: one for clean soap, one to rinse the cotton chenille mit as you wash. Rinse all the dirt off first with the hose. Then wash the upper panels first. Use another mit to do the lower panels. Finish by drying with a cotton towel. Never use a car wash as they will scratch your car (even the "cloth" type) and the soap they use will remove your wax. It isn't easy to remove or to prevent swirl marks, but if you don't mins spending a little time, you can have a showroom perfect car. I've used this technique on my '97, and folks think it's a new car when they see it.
