Subject: Re: how to make a 2001 saab 9-5 "big pimpin"??

Okay Jeff, maybe some of us were a little hasty in our replies, but please don't forget, this newsgroup my be filled with Saab hooyists, but it is also international - thus what to you may be perfectly clear slang, could actually translate to abuse. A Pimp in the UK is someone who oversees a group of prostitues, he "pimps" them. Further, a Pimp is therefore (at leastr in the UK) to drive a BMW or Merc, invariably with a ridiculously oversized exhaust, suspension lowered far enough that his fatuous bodykit will cut his front lawn, and balcked out windows, not that you can tell, as his windows are usually lowered to give the surrounding fourteen blocks the full benefit of his stereo. Execpet all tyou can hear is bass becuase he didn't realise that 72 subwoofers do not a hi-fi make! Enough of that, to your own car. If it helps assuage some of your angst, I am on my second Saab, a 9-3SE Convertible, and am only 24, so youth and good business do have their priviledges as you have obviously discovered. I am trying to decide between a 9-3 Aero, and a 9-5 Vector, and share several of your concerns, - cheifly that I am too young to drive what is seen as an "older executives" vehicle. The standard rims, and sound system are indeed quite adequate. Saab do their own sports exhaust, or you could look at Abbott, but my preference for modifications would be Hirsch. See www.hirsch-performance.ch - theres an English button there somewhere! In the UK at least, and with some dealers, these mods can be carried out during the warranty period, and go from the subtle cosmetic to complete engine re-tunes. They will get a stock 9-5 up to 220bhp in one go, and further if you ask nicely! The carry a good range of tweaks, and from what I've heard, are rather good - there seems to be some preference for Hirsch over Abbott from the Saab drivers I've talked to. The main thought with 9-5s seems to be to sort the suspension - wilst it's very comfortable, it is a little too floaty over dips and crests, so again see Abbott or Hirsch to get this sorted - the 2002 model, especially with the Sports suspension is a vast improvement, but with aftermarket mods you can probably go one better. I think the windows in the 9-5 are already tinted, though not by much. I have seen a number of 9-5s around the UK with tinted windows, and thought that especially in Silver a more gentle tint looked better than a full Limo-style blackout - and doubtless aid visibility from inside the car! Hope that helps, and stuff those that say you're too young for the car - you've earned it, you've worked for it, now you enjoy it! H.
