The daylight is fairly short during the winter season in northern countries, hence it at least ensures that some lights are on during the dangerous transition to darkness. Since the transition takes longer on higher latitudes, it can go on unnoticed for quite a while as the eyes adapts, but nevertheless the absolute visibility fades away. For your info: My car is UK spec, so I can switch DRL as I please. Johannes
