Eliminating the possibility of a bad knee injury in case of a collision. Saab has always been safety conscious, they introduced the first dual circuit brakes and once made some extensive bumpers that could withstand collisions of 5 mph without any damage, The bumpers would just expand to the original shape. I'm not sure that modern Saabs still can do that. Johannes
