I would stay away from the 94's especially the 6 cyl version. The 94's had more problems than any other year. You will find the cost of a 97 may be more upfront but you will make up for it in lower repair and maintenance. However, if you must buy a 94, you will be in the drivers seat (so to speak) when it comes to negotiating. You should not pay more than $5K. Dealers will give about $3,200 - $3,800 on trade in so an offer to a private party of about $4 - $5K is reasonable even if they advertise wanting $7 - $8K. Also make sure the timing chain has already been replaced. And, if it is a manual - check out the clutch. That's about $900 to replace.
