When I used to see this was about 7 years ago so things may have changed but I doubt it. There is a lot of crap that gets onto cars, especially when at sea so it's not a bad idea. The car wash's I saw in Long Beach were not the $2 gas station variety, they were the nice Hanna soft cloth type. Probably easier on your car than most stuff.
