Subject: Re: BUYING A DEMONSTRATOR 9-3

The issues I had to overcome were as follows: 1. Find a good dealer - I investigated the Swedish Saab web site which requires a bit of patience as I don't speak Swedish, however the site is fairly self explanatory. Start from saab.com. If you decide to move ahead I can give you the contact for the garage I used in Gothenberg. 2. Get a commercial currency exchange, this gives you a much better rate than the published 'tourist rate'. If you want to reduce your risk buy all the cash in advance - but you won't get interest on it in the intervenng period. 3. If you are going to collect the car yourself you will need insurance. Sweden supplies third party only cover with the car, but you will almost certainly have to stay overnight and for me third party only was not sufficient. This is probably the biggest problem as it is now very difficult to obtain this cover in the UK due to EU regulations. There are a few UK companies still offering this service but I arranged cover with a Swedish firm via the dealership. Alternatively you can have the car delivered to the UK avoiding all this hassle but missing out on the trip overseas. 4. Overcome the fear of the unknown. The Swedes speak good English, were courteous and informative, knew the UK specs and threw in some extras like car mats FOC. Other than that its all plain sailing so long as you use common sense.
