The software > is already in the ECU. The lookup table is obviously an integral part of the system; it's still software, it's just not executable code. The fact remains, that significant R&D money went into designing which bits on that chip are set, and to steal the maps by just duping an eprom is less than ethical. Any attempt to pretend it's different by saying it's just a lookup table, not executable code, is skirting the issue.
