IRS= independent rear suspension. Gives a better ride and can be tuned for better handling. The 2002 model year 9-5 is said to have improved handling, but I've not driven one. Yes, the "measurements" show the 9000 and 9-5 to be comparable, but try to put the door pocket contents from a 9000 in a 9-5 door. Or the rear door pockets or the center console or the glove box or the pocket on front dash...... The 9000 is a tad more useful. On the other hand, I'd readily by a 9-5 aero wagon ;-) Tod.
