Subject: Buying new 2001 9-5

I want a 9-5 wagon, and the local dealer has some new 2001's which may actually put them in my price range. A couple of questions: First, what is the model year cycle for the 9-5? I figured that the 2003's can't be too far off, making the 2001's fairly stale and worth less. Dealer says he's only recently been getting 2002's, and that the 9-5 model year runs late (unlike many other European cars, where the new model year can start during the summer). Second, while I'd really like an Aero, color and cost may limit me to an SE with the V-6. Isn't the V-6 a GM design, rather than a Saab design? A GM turbo makes me nervous. Has the V-6 been as reliable as the 2.3? Finally, how does one determine a fair price for a new 2001? Its a new car, but it is a 1 or 1 1/2 year old used car the minute I take the keys. Dealer has said it will be "a couple of grand below invoice" but according to my research, the prices for comparably equipped models have actually gone down from 2001 to 2002 (Aero invoice is around $1800 less for 2002!), so much of that savings could evaporate as compared to negotiating a good deal on a 2002. Thnaks for any help/ideas. -Dave
