You'll get a loaded answer here, but $ for $, they are great cars, and sounds like you'll get an exceptional deal with being a GM employee. Like any complex machinery, they can break, but the 9-3 is a very mature model at this point. If you don't buy one now, you should probably wait until the new 9-3 is released and debugged for at least a couple of years. Take care of it and for the most part you will be happy. It will be more expensive to maintain than say a Honda, but then again, you already drive a fairly expensive-to-maintain car so you know that. Without question the 9-3SE is a nicer (my definition: nicer == more fun) car than a loaded S40. Downsides: depreciation - nose-bleed inducing drop in value once you drive it off the lot so plan on keeping it 7-8 years or lease instead. The deals are very good right now. People on the 9-3 BBS at http://www.saabnet.com are getting '02 9-3 SEs with Premium Package, etc for $25,500 which is ridiculously cheap for what you get, and with your discount - WOW! torque steer/camber steer - if you haven't yet, you need to drive a 9-3 and really punch it during a slow turn. You'll feel the steering wheel seem to have a mind of it's own, but unless you do a lot of street racing (bad idea, by the way), you'll get used to it. I have a Viggen and it REALLY has torque steer, but then again I knew it when I bought it, and don't really even notice it except under really heavy acceleration. Reports are new high-powered Altima has torque steer as well so it can be a problem in any car where the engine is overpowered for the chassis - hopefully new 9-3 will fix this. Camber steer is the tendency for the car to follow defects in the road, or lateral grades (for drainage) on interstates. Many people complain about car pulling to the left, but usually it is just the fact that the interstate slopes off to the left for water drainage. Again these are things that if you are an attentive driver (and you should be), you won't really have any problems. Let's face it, the day you drive that car off the lot you will be grinning, and probably for years after that - the turbo is VERY addictive, and once you get used to it, it's hard to go back to a non-turbo engine.
