Subject: Gear change difficulty in reverse



I have just moved on to saab number 7 a 900xs but I am having difficulty in
engaging reverse,the gear stick has to be pushed hard over to the drivers seat
else it crunches the gear.i thought that maybe the gear gate is broken?any
advice from anyone out there who may have experienced the same problem? thanks
