Aftermarket mufflers and pipes are _sometimes_ made of thinner steel so that they can be priced lower. Thinner steel rusts through sooner. The factory wants exhaust to last the warranty period. So, with a Saab, that means about 50K miles. Original mufflers also use the original style of clamps and usually fit better. I've seen some real junk in the aftermarket department. There are also quality aftermarket parts, as well as the stainless that you mentioned (usually good for the life of the car). Bob
