The noise may be the pump in the tranny. Have you already done a 'change and filter'? If so, you may also want to try flushing the fluid to see if that helps. Just a drain will not really do it as all you can get is about 2-3 qt of fluid out. This has to be done at a shop with the right equipment. After the flush, replace the filter. I'd give this a try and see what happens. At least you would be getting rid of wear particles from the clutches. You are pulling your espresso trailer with this car?!? I would look for something a bit more substantial... The auto tranny in the 9k is not world renowned for being very strong anyway. In a NA car, they can be relied upon for 130-150kmi in normal service (no towing) Turbos really chew them up from what I hear, though. The only true data point I have is my Dad's. He has a '91 CD with the 2.3NA and is it cruising along at 160kmi and shifts as good now as ever. I see these 9k autos in salvage yards. Beautiful cars, not hit or anything. I guess that they are there with a dead tranny.
