Subject: Tyres for 9-5SE in Oz?

My 1998 9-5SE came with 215/55 R16 Michelin Pilots HX which are no longer available. My Saab dealer recommends Michelin MXV 3A's in lieu, but they are $350 each. Local tyres like the Goodyear GA+ or Dunlop Monza such as fitted to the premium Holdens and Fords are only $170 each. That's a $720 saving for 4 tyres fitted. So are the Michelins that much better than the premium local tyres? Should I just cough up the extra money, or are there any other tyres available at reasonable prices that anyone has tried on a Saab and are happy with? I was nearly talked into some Bridgestone Turanza ER50's, but they turned out to be more expensive than the Michelins! Are they worth it? Any advice or recommendations based on experience would be much appreciated - my head is spinning from all the garbage the tyre dealers tell me -eg that this tyre or that tyre is perfect and just right for the 9-5 - even when their brochures showed the tyres were not even made in the 215/55 R16 size or even if they were, like the Goodyear Revspec, they didn't have the required load capacity. TIA -- Regards, Peter Wilkins
