Subject: Re: Coolant in oil

Actually, it can. When a Saab headgasket 'blows' on a stock car, it is due to 1) overheating, Poor cooling, coolant which is not changed. All of which have to do with the cooling system maintenance. Keep in mind that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Read the fine print on the guarantee all they cover is the cost of the treatment 200.00. Any further damage is not covered and only to the tune of 200, less than a new engine. The v6 the original poster refers to may be fine for a while or it may not. Any 'slime' in the crankcase will be gone after a couple of oil changes. You can flush it if it makes you happy. If it were mine, I would keep a close eye on coolant levels and oil levels. Daily or at least weekly checks of level and color/consistency. The cooling system is under pressure so it will force itself into the crankcase before oil will be in the coolant. If you do your own oil changes (recommended) you can check the bottom of drain pan when you pour out the used oil to see if there are any traces of coolant and head it off before it is a bigger problem. A head gasket job is not the end of the world. If you like the car, fix it and keep it.
