Subject: Re: Shell Optimax petrol (UK)?

I've put Optimax in my 2001 9-5 Aero now for 20,000 miles. Locally (Cheshire) it averages 5p per litre over normal unleaded. Its hard to say if performance has improved cos the auto box bleeds off any excess, but mpg is slightly better. Typically 28-30 on short journeys and in the high 30s if cruising at 70-80 on motorways. I use it for its improved octane rating (98) and hope it will reward me long term with an efficient engine. There have been some scare stories on some motoring forums (search for Optimax on the 'back room' section at www.honestjohn.co.uk/) but most seem unfounded. I will continue to use Optimax so long as the premium price is no more than 5p per litre, especially as BP 97 Octane runs at 86p per litre! (12p more) David Kirkham "Jim" <jimnopsamil.thanks> wrote in message news:ubl64vaatq9k87nopsam.supernews.com... > Does anyone have any comments on using Shell Optimax in Saab turbo engines? > > Also, what does it cost where you live, near Amersham it is selling at about > 85p which is 13p above ordinary 95 unleaded, yet in Somerset I have seen it > at "just" 5p more > >
