Subject: Opinion: Sale or Keep '86 900 SPG?

Help. I need some opinions. I have an '86 900 SPG; excellent condition save a few cracks in the dash and the leather; low mileage (67,500); I'm the original owner. I'm now having a baby. I've been thinking it might be better to get a car with air bags, anti-lock brakes, etc. Also, I think 4 doors vs. 2 would be easier to get kid in and out of carseat...plus what carseat would work in '86 900? Another nit: my mechanic is in another town, 40 miles away, if I ever do have problems with it. But the car is in such good shape, it seems a shame to sell it. Plus, I'm in Iowa so I don't know I would ever find someone who would appreciate the car for what it is. I admit, as much as I love the car, after 15 years I'm sort of ready for a change. But on the other hand, I really haven't found another new small/med car that can compare in terms of handling, room, and real fun out on the highway. So opinion: is an '86 saab still a "safe" car by today's standards, even without the air bags and anti-lock brakes? If I sold it, I couldn't really afford to get something real fancy. Probably something like a PT cruiser or Jeep Liberty (in the $25000 or less range). Kathy
